Sept 2017 – Adventure Overland Show, Stratford

A visit to the Adventure Overland Show at Stratford Racecourse has become a bit of a habit. It’s a show that well worth visiting. It’s a great opportunity to meet other like minded folk, see a whole load of other vehicles, buy things that you never knew you needed and spend a weekend camping with friends and maxing out on food and drink.

Aberdeen to Stratford, via Livingston, is a bit of a hike for me, and Vince doesn’t do the M6 when its busy. Breaking the journey at a Travelodge in Kendal (yes we know we could sleep in Tilley, but late at night after a 6 hour journey for me, it’s a bit of a hassle). The advantage is discovering a great place for breakfast the following morning – Kenyon Hall Farm, Winwick Lane, Croft http://www.kenyonhall.co.uk. Well worth the 400m detour from the motorway.

Arrived early in Stratford. The weather was hot and sunny (expectedly so) and it was definitely Pimms weather. The only problem was we didn’t have any Pimms with us. A trip to Tesco put that right!

Prime camping spots on the camping field were found, with reserved places for Chris and Toffee Vodka Dave, who were travelling from Swindon and the Lakes. The Tilley camp set up was completed swiftly. The sun was still shining, so it could only be Pimms O’Clock. Containing copious fruit and herbs it also counts towards the 5-a-day total!

Food is always a big part of any trip away. On the Friday night we cooked goat curry, along with Vince’s flat bread. On the Saturday night Chris cooked Chicken Chasseur. Vodka Dave cooked …. well supplied the infamous coffee vodka and also cooked a full fry up on the Sunday morning. It was so good we forget to take photographs of it! Both days were spent walking around the show, chatting to exhibitors, looking at other people’s set up and listening to some fantastic talks as part of the seminar programme. Every time I come away with itchy feet just wanting to get on the road properly over landing.

On the Sunday Chris just had test his new purchase to try out his winching capabilities. It worked well and guess what…. Vince just had to go back to the show and buy the same ‘toy’! Boys will be boys 🙂

Great weekend.
