Glen Orchy wild camp – May ’17

I had a great wild camp at Glen Orchy on Saturday with a good friend Kate. Having looked on Google Earth the day before I’d identified several places to camp however as usual when you get there things look completely different and the good spots had already been taken. So having driven all the way to the end decided to head back up for a second look as was getting a bit late to start looking elsewhere. There was a patch where someone else was pitched, down a track and within the trees who, in the end, ended up packing up and heading off. I’d seen a possible spot right down by the river further over to the right but would have meant driving over the long grass reeds so thought best to walk it first to make sure there were no holes I could drop a wheel into…it was bone dry so no chance of getting bogged down or anything like that. This ended up at a perfect spot…the Scottish Savanna.

As usual a feast was had washed down with some chilled wine. The Growler worked well too to hold the 1.9lt of Stewart Brewing IPA.

With the sun beaming down, the river was too tempting so it had to be done…though was bloody cold! First dip of the year.

Sunday morning was relaxed with a continental breakfast and coffee in the morning sun. Once all cleared and packed up it was a drive down the south side of Loch Awe, over to Ardrishaig, up over The Rest and be Thankful, before hitting slow traffic down Loch Lomond…hadn’t thought of that…will do next time.
